Belle IsleBelle Isle Average User Rating: (0 votes, add your vote or comments) Belle Isle sits in the middle of the Detroit River on the U.S.- Canada border. Belle Isle was planned by Frederick Law Olmsted, designer of New York's Central Park, who was hired by Detroit City Planners to do the same for the island. Belle Isle features a half-mile long beach and swimming area, Aquarium, Belle Isle Zoo, the Dossin Museum of Great Lakes shipping memorabilia, Livingstone Memorial Lighthouse, Remick Music Shell, a Carillon, Greenhouse, the Scott Fountain, a meeting place Casino, and more recently, a Big Slide next to the Children's Playscape. It is one of Detroit's most popular attractions supplying visitors with plenty of outdoor and exercise opportunities that include picnicking, fishing, golfing, and numerous other athletics. You can get to the island from Detroit by crossing the Belle Isle Bridge. The bridge is about three miles east of Downtown Detroit off of East Jefferson Avenue.
